Where to eat mushrooms in Western Liguria
21/10/2024
The essential restaurants offering all the flavours of autumn

CA’ MEA – BADALUCCO
(15 minutes from The Mall Sanremo)
Just 15 minutes’ drive from The Mall Sanremo, set in a former olive mill accessed via a stone bridge, Ca’ Mea is a typical rustic trattoria serving superb home-cooked food. The house specialities are based around mushrooms, such as the unforgettable tartare with porcini.

FONTANA DELL’OLMO – AGAGGIO INFERIORE
(30 minutes from The Mall Sanremo)
This delightful family-run agriturismo in the heart of the Ligurian Alps is just half an hour’s drive from The Mall Sanremo. The restaurant is open for lunch on Sundays and on some holidays, with a menu that follows the rhythms of nature; in autumn, it features the porcini, king of mushrooms, and other seasonal varieties. 20 minutes away at an altitude of 1100 metres, there are three guest rooms, the perfect place to admire the beautiful Argentina valley.

RISTORANTE SALVO CACCIATORI – IMPERIA
(30 minutes from The Mall Sanremo)
Recommended in the prestigious Michelin guide, Salvo Cacciatori is a historic restaurant, opened in 1906, but the interior is elegant and contemporary. The predominantly fish-based menu reinterprets traditional dishes, but autumn is the time to cook with mushrooms and truffles..

LA PIEMONTESINA – SAVONA
(90 minutes from The Mall Sanremo)
Local specialities with the freshest ingredients, including excellent mushroom dishes, perhaps accompanied by a delicious tagliata of Piedmontese beef and a glass of wine from the Langhe. The perfect choice for anyone who loves the traditional food of Liguria and Piedmont.

RISTORANTE QUINTILIO – ALTARE
(90 minutes from The Mall Sanremo)
Seasonal ingredients take centre stage in the kitchen, for a menu that changes daily. The bread is home-made – having risen for at least 18 hours -, as is the focaccia and the fresh pasta. There’s a choice of raviolini al plin, tortelli with toma Brigasca cheese, tagliolini with thirty yolks, fettuccine… combine with mushrooms for a real treat.

PALAZZO SALSOLE – SASSELLO
(2 hours from The Mall Sanremo)
Overlooking a picturesque little square, Palazzo Salsole serves food that speaks of tradition and territory, with typical dishes from Liguria and lower Piedmont. You definitely shouldn’t miss their Tagliolini con il tocco di funghi, and finish with a celebrated Sassello amaretto.
