Triora the city of witches

Ligurian Alps Park

Located at 800 meters above sea level, in the heart of the Argentina Valley in the province of Imperia, stands the small village of Triora. The country is also called “city of witches” thanks to an ancient story that has always fascinated multiple generations.
In the streets you can breathe the scent of typical artisan bread and ancient stories. The nickname “witch village” is due to an event in 1588 in which some women were accused of black magic and underwent a bloody trial. The documentation of the facts is jealously kept in the small Ethnographic and Witchcraft Museum located in the center.
In memory of this tragic event, a village fete was set up which takes place in August in the narrow streets of the village.
In Triora there are no more witches, but itineraries remain to discover the symbolic places of the anecdote that still attracts many curious tourists today.
The city lives not only on the well-known story but the surrounding area has a lot to offer to those looking for contact with unspoiled nature. Through paths, secondary roads and dirt roads it is possible to move from one valley to another in the Ligurian Alps Park. Ancient ridge paths, now restored, offer magnificent 360 ° panoramas of the mountains and the sea.
The perfect destination for those who want to get away from the routine and immerse themselves in the green between history, typical cuisine and hospitality.
