Skiing on the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines
21/01/2019
Abetone, Cutigliano and Pistoia Mountains

Winter sports enthusiasts can give vent to their passions in the ski area of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, just a stone’s throw from Florence. For 80 years Abetone has been one of the most famous and popular ski resorts in central Italy. It is a renowned resort straddling the snowy peaks of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, which in some areas reach up to 2000 meters.

Abetone offers 50 km of slopes and routes, well served by a system of 22 lifts, to give every type of skier, advanced or beginner, the opportunity to fully enjoy the beauty of the land. There are also two 15 kilometre-long ring-shaped tracks dedicated to cross-country skiing, with ring-shaped tracks snaking among white and red firs, for a total of 15 km – dedicated to people who wish to move in perfect harmony with nature. Two ski schools, five slopes and renting sports equipment make Abetone particularly suitable for beginner skiers, while more difficult slopes make the descents stimulating for the more experienced.

The Val di Luce, which is located on the northernmost side of the district, is perhaps the most evocative part of the whole territory. For over 40 years, the Val di Luce has also been synonymous with relaxation with the Val di Luce spa Resort, a new design boutique hotel located near the slopes and equipped with a luxurious spa.

Abetone also has two Snow Parks, where all snowboard enthusiasts and curious onlookers can have mountains of fun. The dense beech woods and ridges make Abetone an ideal destination for winter hiking.
