Mougins the starred village of the French riviera
02/12/2020
Gastronomic pearl of the French riviera

Mougins, also known as “Picasso’s village”, is an elegant village on the French Riviera. Its historic center is full of excellent restaurants, art galleries and a unique atmosphere that reigns in every street. A pearl that has opened up over the years to sophisticated tourism, perfect for those who want to enjoy the luxury of the Riviera and at the same time savor the authenticity of the place.

Those who go to Mougins for the first time, especially in spring and summer, will be dazzled by its beauty. From the central Place du Commandant Lamy, a series of shops and restaurants with a Provençal flavor develop all around, welcoming visitors in all their splendor. Rue de Badier and Rue des Orfèvres are the most characteristic streets, full of shops of artisans and artists. Each glimpse reveals the charm of the town: hidden gardens, painted doors and flowered balconies that color the city and make it extremely poetic.

Many celebrities have stayed here: from Édith Piaf to Jean Cocteau up to Picasso, who spent the last 15 years of his life there. Its legacy is visible in every detail: the Museum of Classical Art of Mougins is particularly worth seeing, where there are works by Cézanne, Dalí and Matisse.

The Notre Dame De Vie Chapel, known for its beauty and proximity to Picasso’s house, belongs to the Historical Monuments of France. A little gem, adored by the painter who is definitely worth a visit.

Equally famous is the Moulin de Mougins restaurant, founded in 1969 and in which several starred chefs including Alain Ducasse have worked. Alongside this excellence, however, we find a vast food and wine proposal that ranges from the most characteristic to the most luxurious places. Also for this reason the town hosts “Les Étoiles de Mougins – Festival International de la Gastronomie”, a culinary event that welcomes many top chefs from all over the world in June.

Our journey to discover this village in the south of France ends here, all that remains is to plan the next weekend for Mougins.
