Menton gardens

Flowery village of the French Riviera

Menton is considered the pearl of France, is located on the tip of the French Riviera near the Italian border and enjoys, thanks to its position, a mild climate that favors all types of semi-tropical vegetation. This is one of the reasons why Menton is famous for its many gardens. The plant that represents the city is the lemon, which has become a symbol of Menton enough to dedicate a festival between February and March which hosts sculptures completely made with this citrus fruit.

Among the most suggestive gardens it is impossible not to mention Serre de la Madonne a place of great impact and beauty. In fact, the garden was born in the first half of the 1900s and welcomes in its 7 hectares many species of plants from all over the world. It is possible to take long walks among nature, stairways and stone sculptures.

Another place to visit are the gardens of Palazzo Carnoles. They have become famous because they host the largest citrus collection in Europe, bringing together about 400 specimens of almost one hundred different species including grapefruits, oranges, lemons, mandaranges, cedars, kumquats, bergamot, melangola and pomelo.

Do not miss a visit to the gardens of Maria Serena also called “Little Africa” for the huge amount of palm trees and tropical plants. In fact, it would probably be more correct to call it a palm grove rather than a garden. A luxuriant example of nature overlooking the sea that invites you to travel with your mind to exotic places.

If what you are looking for is a flower garden, what you absolutely must visit is the botanical garden of the Val Rahmeh. It is an integral part of the Natural History museum and brings together numerous species of flowers and plants originating from hot countries, a unique environment in which the delicate beauty of a distant world finds expression.

Last, certainly not for beauty, is the Jardin Fontana Rosa here Vincente Blasco Ibanez, politician and writer, purchased a property called Fontana Rosa in the center of the Garavan district. In this garden, in the heart of the French Riviera, he recreated a corner of his hometown: Valencia. A magical place embellished with ceramics, pergolas, fountains and gardens with striking decorations.
