Il Borro estate

Wine, luxury and nature in a medieval village

Located in San Giustino Valdarno, in Arezzo province, and a stone’s throw from the natural scenery that provided the background for Leonardo’s Giaconda, is Il Borro, previously the hunting estate of Duke Amedeo d’Aosta. A medieval village dating to the year 1000, it is perched above a breathtaking gorge (which is what “borro” means) in an idyllic position and surrounded by 45 hectares of vineyards. Thirty years ago, Ferruccio Ferragamo fell in love with it and decided to transform it not only into the family’s country residence, but also a fabulous 5-star winery relais.
Today, in this place enveloped in silence and set among woods and hills, the union between tradition and luxury is reflected in the splendid Nineteenth Century Historical Dimora, the Villa, the Suites in the hamlet hotel and in the old farmhouses dotted around the estate and furnished in perfect Tuscan style with touches of international charm.  Strolling through the narrow streets of the Village, you pass the windows of artisans’ workshops and the Estate’s two restaurants, Il Borro Tuscan Bistro, where you can taste the Estate’s award-winning wines paired with traditional Tuscan dishes, or Osteria del Borro for fine dining, where meals are a journey through local tradition given an elegant, sophisticated interpretation by chef Andrea Campani. There is also a delightful Spa, where guests can relax in the warm waters or enjoy regenerating treatments, and an infinity pool overlooking a peerless view that transforms every stay at Il Borro into a unique leisure experience.   The love for the area and its nature which Ferruccio passed on to his children led to their running the Estate, with Salvatore involved in full-time management of the winery and the vineyards for many years now, and Vittoria in charge of organic fruit and vegetables cultivation, bio egg production and, as an expert horsewoman, the horses. Speaking of the latter, she tells us: “Valdarno offers incredible itineraries for exploring such a varied area, full of surprises, and the best way to do it is on the back of a horse. Each time it’s a new exciting experience, even for me who grew up here! Rides that end with a picnic enjoyed in the peace and quiet of unspoilt nature are something not to be missed, an unparalleled moment”. A once in a lifetime Tuscan country living experience. An unforgettable memory.
