Hotel ad Astra Florence

A secret treasure overlooking the torrigiani gardens

Overlooking on the largest private garden in Europe, between the scent of flowers and a blissful quiet in the air, Ad Astra is the Hôtel Particulier in Florence.

Hotel Ad Astra is the result of the collaboration between the architect Francesco Maestrelli and the brothers Marco and Matteo Perduca. The 14 rooms are unique and different: for the furnishings, for the dimensions and for the proposed views. Four open directly onto the majestic panoramic terrace that surrounds the entire floor, some overlook the garden, others look onto the quiet and characteristic Via del Campuccio while two are totally immersed in the Torrigiani garden in Oltrarno – the most authentic and fashionable Florentine neighborhood.

Palaces, squares, bridges, museums, churches, theaters, restaurants, bars and shops are all within walking distance of this boutique bed and breakfast. Ad Astra occupies the first floor of the ancestral family home, where the main rooms and the splendid hall are surrounded by a magnificent terrace of 270 square meters. This bright terrace, which overlooks the beautiful esoteric garden dominated by the neo-Gothic tower (an observatory for the stars), is organized with spaces protected by large umbrellas and is available for breakfast. Here you can enjoy a traditional Tuscan cigar or sip a glass of good red wine from the Chianti hills. The unique atmosphere offers the best company to read a book or magazine or to write down the memories of the visit in Florence.

Ad Astra – “to the stars” – owes its name to the neo-Gothic tower, a former observatory of the stars of the early 1800s, built by the Marquis Torrigiani as a hymn to human desire and the ambition to go “higher”. Updates and interprets the concept of the 18th century French hotel particulier, a type of urban residence for aristocrats, an elegant private house used as an escape from the city. Occupying the first floor of a prestigious Florentine residence in the Oltrarno area, Ad Astra mixes memories and modern objects with the history of the secular garden that the Torrigiani, an ancient Florentine family of merchants, acquired in the 1400s.

Over time, two parallel projects have been added to the hotel: SoprArno Suites and Oltrarno Splendid, two boutique bed and breakfasts each furnished with a unique style, secluded in the heart of the Oltrarno Fiorentino, a few minutes from the Ponte Vecchio and Palazzo Pitti.

The eclectic team that created SoprArno Suites, Oltrarno Splendid and Ad Astra Florence – Francesco Maestrelli, Matteo & Marco Perduca and Betty Soldi – has created spaces full of a unique style characterized by unusual furnishings, bespoke pieces of art and visionary perspectives. Authentic frescoes, ancient and original plasters, bathtubs in the room and carefully curated corners create an unexpected home from which to discover the many riches of Florence.
