Traditions and tips for a day in real Florentine style

An unmissable Easter tradition in Florence is the pyrotechnic show of the exploding cart. After breakfast at the Rivoire, a historic chocolate shop in Piazza della Signoria, you can head to Piazza del Duomo to watch the breathtaking show of the “colombina”: a dove-shaped rocket which is lit during the 11 o’clock mass, which then runs along a wire until it hits the “Brindellone”, full of fireworks.

For lunch, you can try the famous brunch at the Four Seasons Hotel Firenze, a popular choice for Easter, or if you prefer a lunch that will make you think about the Mediterranean Sea and summer, try the Alassio restaurant at the hotel Hoxton recently opened in Florence, where you can dine in the beautiful loggia in the inner courtyard.

In the afternoon, why not enjoy the good weather going for a walk in one or more of the beautiful gardens of Florence such as Boboli and Bardini, some of the most popular ones; the enchanting Garden of Horticulture with its spectacular Art Nouveau greenhouse, just above, the magnificent view from the Parnassus Gardens, or if you want to admire an even more spectacular view, you can visit the romantic Rose Garden, just below Piazzale Michelangelo.

What if the weather is not good or you are passionate about art? No problem! All the city’s museums will be open on Easter Day and Easter Monday. Instead, for more of that Easter atmosphere, you can take the so-called “tour of the seven churches” and admire beautiful masterpieces of art and architecture such as the Cathedral and the Basilicas of Santa Maria Novella and Santa Croce.

Finally, you can have a delicious dinner at the Osteria delle Tre Panche on the panoramic terrace of the Hotel Hermitage to end the day with a view of the spectacular sunset over the city.
