Christmas and New Year in Sanremo
16/12/2025
From morning to night, the definitive guide to the perfect day

They say Sanremo has a total of 300 days’ sunshine a year. Whether that’s the case or not, the truth is that the City of Flowers boasts one of the mildest winters in Italy, and the festive season makes it shine all the brighter.

We begin with a really special breakfast: freshly-baked croissants and cappuccino at Pasticceria San Romolo, famous for its traditional Baci di Sanremo; at Cake Mamas, where classic pastries are joined by cup cakes and other American-style treats, or at Café Renaissance Sanremo, under the arches of Piazza Colombo. At this time of year, the square is enlivened by Christmas markets and a skating rink: a winter custom for adults and children alike. Continue with one of the shows taking place in the Mercato Annonario (the historic covered market) or stroll among the streets and squares of the old town, and even the Pigna, the ancient heart of Sanremo.

For lunch, there’s a choice of two winners: La Pignese, a true institution of Ligurian cuisine overlooking Porto Vecchio, or for a more contemporary vibe, Baccarà Bistrot Bello near Teatro Ariston.

We can continue the day with fun and rides at the Luna Park dei Fiori on the seafront, or experience the magic of the holidays at The Mall Sanremo, among decorations, installations, boutiques and hot chocolate with views of the sea and the hills.

When the sun goes down, head up to the Regina Elena Gardens, a natural balcony over the bay, to enjoy one of the most spectacular sunsets of the season, as the city lights gradually come on. Or treat yourself to an aperitif at a top venue like La Gintoneria, the Mille806 speakeasy lounge, or the iconic Victory Morgana Bay, which is also the perfect place for dinner.

End the day among the sparkle of Piazza Borea d’Olmo, where light shows turn the buildings into Christmas stories. And on New Year’s Eve, there’s an unforgettable spectacle at Porto Vecchio, with music, lights, dancing drones and fireworks that glitter on the water to greet the new year.
