Just over half an hours’ drive from The Mall Firenze you can admire and visit one of Italy’s most spectacular wineries, Antinori nel Chianti Classico, owned by one of the region’s longest-established and most widely acclaimed winemaking families. The business has been registered in Florence’s Guild of Vintners since 1385 and produces cult labels including Tignanello and Solaia.
Designed by Studio Archea Associati, creators of major projects all over the world, the winery is camouflaged among the gentle hills of Chianti Classico, an integral part of this beautiful landscape. Planted just above the hill, covering it like a blanket, there are vineyards of Sangiovese, along with other varieties that are traditionally planted nearby: Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo, Colorino, Malvasia nera and Mammolo. There’s also a small area planted with international grapes including Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc.
Connecting the three levels of the winery is a stunning spiral staircase that allows visitors to admire the building from above, and which gives access to the top-floor Ristorante Rinuccio 1180, named after the patriarch of the family. It’s a place of charm and good taste where, surrounded by the extraordinary scenery of Chianti, the eyes and the palate are regaled with the products of the land. Depending on the season, traditional Tuscan dishes are reinterpreted with a contemporary slant, and accompanied by a wide selection of Antinori estates.
The winery is also home to the site-specific installations of the Antinori Art Project, an initiative that focuses on contemporary visual arts, and part of the family collection, previously kept at Palazzo Antinori in Florence.
