From the ritual of dipping focaccia in cappuccino to sardenaira with spuma, and much more besides

EUROPA PALACE SANREMO
At Ristorante Pria – open to non-hotel guests, like all the hotel’s dining venues, which also include Rêve Bistrot and The RUFtop – breakfast celebrates the region with Ligurian specialities such as artisan focaccia, sardenaira (a traditional Sanremo focaccia topped with tomato, olives and anchovies), onion focaccia, pesto, Taggiasca olives and Genoese pandolce (a traditional sweet bread with dried fruit and nuts). These are joined by dishes prepared to order, from eggs Benedict to smashed avocado, as well as cakes and freshly baked pastries made every morning.

BARBARINA
A bar, bistro and food shop with a focus on small producers and seasonal ingredients. Breakfast offers both sweet and savoury options, including shokupan, the soft Japanese milk bread, served with scrambled eggs or butter and jam; cinnamon and cardamom rolls; yoghurt with homemade granola; and single-origin Colombian filter coffee.

CAFFÈ PASTICCERIA BRANCACCIO
At pastry chef Alessandro Fusco’s bakery, sourdough starter is used to make croissants, pains au chocolat, krapfen and Veneziana brioche flavoured with vanilla and orange paste. The selection also includes fruit-filled pastries, baked cakes and savoury focaccia, all to enjoy with Club Kavè coffee.

PASTA MADRE
For lovers of natural leavening, Pasta Madre offers naturally leavened bread, brioche and artisan pastries, alongside focaccia and seasonal savoury flans for those looking for the traditional savoury flavours of Liguria.

LA TAVERNETTA
A historic focaccia shop serving slices since 1950, La Tavernetta is one to add to your list for its sardenaira, as well as focaccia, torta verde (a traditional savoury vegetable pie), and farinata (the Ligurian chickpea pancake).

L’INGORDO
In Arma di Taggia, just outside Sanremo, L’Ingordo is perfect for when breakfast turns into brunch. Made to order, its pancakes range from versions with Nutella and fruit to more unusual combinations such as prosciutto crudo, stracciatella and fig jam. The menu also features open-faced toasted sandwiches with avocado, eggs and salmon, filled bagels, yoghurt bowls and homemade cakes.
