What to see in Nice
10/05/2024
The glamorous capital of the Côte d’Azur, just an hour from The Mall Sanremo

PROMENADE DES ANGLAIS
Along with the Croisette in Cannes, it’s the most famous promenade on the Côte d’Azur, with its blue chairs where you can enjoy the sea breeze and the sunset.

COURS SALEYA
A favourite spot for 19th-century high society, today it’s home to Nice’s colourful flower market. Nearby is Place Masséna, with its distinctive black and white chequerboard paving.

BASILICA OF NOTRE-DAME DE NICE
Built in the second half of the 19th century in Neo-Gothic style, the church is impressive for its architectural details, astonishing stained glass windows and two magnificent towers.

CATHEDRALE SAINT-NICOLAS A NICE
Nice was also well-known among the Russian aristocracy, so much so that the last tsar, Nicholas II, commissioned the building of this church, completed in 1912. It’s the largest Orthodox church outside Russia.

MUSEUMS
These range from the antiquities of the Musée d’Archéologie to 17th and 18th-century splendour at the Palais Lascaris, modern and contemporary art at the Musée Matisse – the artist lived in Nice from 1917 to his death in 1954 -, the Musée National Marc Chagall, with the largest public collection of works by the Belarusian painter, and the MAMAC | Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.

MONT ALBAN FORT
A magnificent and picturesque fortress overlooking the sea, built in the 16th century to defend Nice from Turkish invaders.

CÔTE D’AZUR OBSERVATORY
Any self-respecting observatory has to be located outside the city, on Mont-Gros, to be exact. As well as its major astronomical discoveries, this one boasts a dome designed by Gustave Eiffel, the father of the celebrated Parisian tower.

GARDENS
The gardens of the Côte d’Azur are genuine delights. To mention just two of the many that embellish Nice: the Jardin Botanique, with over 3000 plant species, and Parc Phoenix, with 20 themed areas.

PLAGE PALOMA, SAINT-JEAN-CAP-FERRAT
There’s nothing better than the sea on the Côte d’Azur, but if you’re looking for the most beautiful beach in the area, you need to travel to Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat for this gem, loved by celebrities past and present.
