Only a little more than an hour away from The Mall Sanremo, Cannes becomes even more vibrant during the famous Film Festival which brings international stars to its iconic Croisette. Even though access to the Palais des Festivals and many of the Festival’s events is restricted, visiting Cannes on those days is still a special experience.
In the morning, let yourself be tempted by the window of the Philippe Tayac Pâtisserie in the central rue d’Antibes with its delicious croissants, pain au chocolat and pastries.
After a nice stroll through the Vieux Port and the enchanting rue Meynadier, you will reach the lively Marché Forville (Tuesday to Sunday from 7am to 1pm), the oldest market in Cannes where you can explore its colourful and fragrant stalls.
Then you can choose between a delicious pizza from La Pizza Cresci or if you prefer something more typical, there are seafood specialities at the Astoux e Brun brasserie. Afterwards, you can take a tour of Le Suquet, Cannes’ medieval centre, which is located on top of a small hill offering splendid views. Visit the Église Notre-Dame d’Espérance and the Musée des explorations du monde, housed in an ancient castle overlooking the hill.
The opening ceremony of the Festival will start soon. It is time to head towards Le Palais des Festival, this time going along the promenade to find a good spot near the 60-metre red carpet, where the stars show off their amazing outfits every year.
But do not go away yet as in the evening, it is time for Cinéma de la Plage: a huge screen next to the Palais where every night they show a different film, chosen from the ones awarded in the previous editions of the festival (free entrance).
For young people between 18 and 28, there is the 3 Jours à Cannes programme which gives access to the projections of the Official Selection at the futuristic Cinéum.
