The loveliest gardens on the Côte d’Azur
08/04/2024
From east to west, the open-air green museums less than an hour from The Mall Sanremo

MENTON
We are 12 kilometres from Ventimiglia, in the first French city you come to after crossing the border. Its most famous gardens are the Biovès Gardens, where in February you can admire the gigantic  citrus-covered carnival floats of the famous Lemon Festival. Also very beautiful are La Citronneraie, with around 450 citrus plants, but also tropical and subtropical plants, Jardin Botanique Val Rahmeh-Menton, an almost 1 hectare park with terraces arranged around an Italian-Provençal style villa, and the lush Jardin Serre de la Madone.

MONACO
The Principality of Monaco is a small green lung, and its most captivating gardens are the Fontvieille Park, the approximately 15,000m² Exotic Garden, the Princess Grace Rose Garden, with 10,000 rosebushes of over three hundred varieties, the Japanese Garden with a pond, waterlilies, bamboo bushes, waterfalls and a zen corner, and the Saint Martin Gardens, in the oldest part of the city.

ÈZE
An enchanting village perched on a hill overlooking the sea, halfway between Menton and Nice, full of flowered passages, gardens and parks. Its Exotic Garden, opened in 1933, is a true gem.

CAP D’AIL AND SAINT-JEAN-CAP-FERRAT
Two more magnificent locations, this time right on the sea. In the first,  do not miss the garden of the Villa Les Camélias Museum and the Parc du Château des Terrasses, with breathtaking views of the bay. Located in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is the stunning Villa & Jardins Ephrussi de Rothschild, with its 9 themed gardens, one more remarkable than the other.

NICE
One of the cities on the French Riviera with the most gardens to visit, above all the Botanical Garden, three and a half hectares of flora with over 3000 species of plants, and the Parc Phoenix, famous not only for its twenty thematic gardens, but also for the lively fauna (peacocks, lemurs, iguanas etc).
