LIGURIA DI PONENTE (ABOUT AN HOUR FROM THE MALL SANREMO)
It is in the “Mystical Alps”, in western Liguria, that the region’s most extensive lavender fields are found, between the hinterlands of Sanremo and Imperia, where, not surprisingly, the Flower Riviera Lavender Association was born.
With the cultivated fields and areas of wild lavender, between June and August this region becomes a delight to the eye and the nose. Among the most famous locations are: Colle di Nava, where the historic cologne Lavanda Coldinava was created; the hills around the villages of Taggia (just minutes from The Mall Sanremo); and Pietrabruna, Boscomare and Airole, where during the flowering and harvesting period there is no shortage of festivals and themed markets. Among the historic producers of lavender items is the Antica Distilleria Cugge, in Molini di Triora, home to four generations of lavender cultivators from Drego.
TUSCANY
During this same time of year Tuscany is also tinged with purple. Less than an hour from The Mall Firenze, on the outskirts of Castellina in Chianti, are the fields of the Chianti Lavender of the Casalvento Farm. Moving on to the provinces of Pisa, Lucca and Livorno (about an hour and a half away), the most beautiful lavender fields are found in Santa Luce, where from June 11 to July 23, 2023, The Lavender Days festival will be held, with self-guided visits or guided tours. In Massarosa, with its Lavanda di Massarosa farm, and in Cecina, you will encounter fragrant expanses of wild lavender. Finally, in Sorano, province of Grosseto (two hours from the mall), there is Podere Argo, which holds classes and tours, and where you can organise photo shoots and adopt a lavender plant for a year, receiving periodic updates and a box of products.
