The Hyères Islands, also called “Iles d’Or” are: Porquerolles, Port-Cros and Ile du Levant. The nickname Iles d’Or is due to the characteristic golden reflection of its beaches at sunset thanks to the composition of its rocks.
The archipelago is easily accessible by several ferry lines from the Giens peninsula and the French Riviera.
Porquerolles, the largest island, has a unique charm and offers everyone to find the perfect sea for their needs: the north coast, has sandy beaches shaded by pine forests, is the most comfortable and suitable for families; the coast to the south is wilder, perfect for those who want to immerse themselves in an uncontaminated sea.In addition to the sea, it is worth investing part of the holiday to visit the village of Porquerolles and the fort Sant’Agata, or go to the lighthouse, at the southernmost point of the island. If your holiday idea is more sporty, here you can rent a bicycle and discover the island by pedaling.
If what you are looking for is a destination to get away from the hustle and bustle, your destination must be Port-Cros. Forget cars, bicycles and urban noise. Here the only way to move is through long walks in unspoiled nature. But don’t be afraid because the paths available are really many and for all the physical resistance / time available. Another unmissable activity in Port-Cros is snorkeling and diving, the marine flora and fauna are priceless.
L’Ile du Levant is divided between the military area and the naturist paradise, the area open to the public is only the western part. This is the perfect place for naturalists (the first naturalistic center on the island was born in 1931). What you will take home from this island are the scents of myrtle and rosemary between walks with breathtaking views.
