A Cycling Tour of Cogoleto and Varazze
28/05/2026
Ligurian villages, crystal-clear waters and the most spectacular cycle path on the Riviera

Thanks to its beaches, the Mediterranean macchia and colourful villages, the stretch of land on the Riviera that goes from Cogoleto to Varazze is ideal for a day spent between sport, relaxation and breathtaking views. This area is only about one hour away from The Mall Sanremo and features one of the most beautiful cycle paths in Liguria, built on the tracks of the former railway running alongside the water.

You can start from Cogoleto, a small fishing village where according to legend, the famous Cristoforo Colombo was born. Among narrow alleys and little squares overlooking the sea, its historic centre boasts picturesque hidden gems such as the Church of San Lorenzo with a rose window.

After a rest with freshly baked schiacciata or lunch directly on the beach at the Holy Beach, you can get back on your bike for a ride along Lungomare Europa: a spectacular 4-kilometre road featuring tunnels built within the rock, beautiful views of the Mediterranean and secluded bays where you can stop for a quick swim on a hot day. Continuing your tour, you will encounter the plains of Invrea where the landscape takes on a different shape: instead of dark rocks, bright stone walls and Mediterranean scrub immersed in the scent of the sea.

Arriving in Varazze is breathtaking: its promenade reveals itself along with the refined architecture of Villa Araba, a white modernist building designed in 1925 by architect Barry Dierks, well known all around the French Riviera.  From there, you can access the medieval historic centre of Varazze with its frescoed buildings, bustling alleys and picturesque boutiques. If you are not tired yet, you can head towards one of the most beautiful beaches in the area, Spiaggia della Torre, sheltered behind an impressive rocky cliff. Alternatively, you can opt for a relaxing time on the local beach, also ideal for families.

If you want an aperitif cocktail, the right place is the Conchiglia Cocktail Bar right on the sea. For dinner, instead, we recommend the Garbassu, a cosy trattoria with an indoor courtyard: authentic Ligurian cuisine, beautiful outdoor areas and a vintage ambience.
