White, what wedding dreams are made of, is back in fashion for the bride. Even if you dare with a minidress or some see-through effects, shades are those of milk and ivory. The only divergence allowed from white is the embroidery, which can be gold, silver or also blue or black. Touches of colour which no doubt will become even more of a trend in 2023.
In general, it’s back to classics – no two-piece suits and very few slip dresses, although these are perfect for guests. Instead the styles of choice feature exaggerated volumes and showy details like maxi bows or touches of glitter.
Necklines are not extreme; they go from draping that highlights the bust to a crossover décolleté in halter neck style (the top that fastens behind the neck). The most sensual dresses, however, feature lingerie corsets that here become a lace-covered bodice.
In this atmosphere where the sanctity of the moment and emotion finally return to play a leading role, the protagonist is the veil – long or short, it has exquisite embroidery and small flowers that bloom with elegance.
And the dress code for guests? Let’s start with the color. Never white because you are not the main player here. Ditto for red, too bold, and not purple, it’s unlucky. Black is fine if it’s an evening wedding. Do not overdo it with styles that are too eccentric or dresses that are too short and low-cut. A little more leeway is allowed with accessories, especially if it’s a seaside or garden wedding.
Have fun with stylish details – headbands, floral combs, hats, for late afternoon weddings; jewel clutch and mini bags; nude look pumps or sandals to tie at the ankle. And lastly … an old-style fabric handkerchief because the real rule is to be overcome with emotion, from the wedding march to the last dance.
