Documentary on Alexander McQueen

The fashion Hooligan

Unpublished and backstage movies recount Alexander McQueen’s life. His innovative vision of fashion is returned to us in all its strength with the release of the documentary McQueen.

McQueen is the story of the life of one of the most revolutionary designers of all time, returned in all his genius through edited amateur videos, unpublished and private footage and archival material. Shot by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui just eight years after the death of Alexander McQueen, the documentary presented in national preview this fall will arrive in Italian cinemas in 2019.

A brilliant iconoclastic stylist who profoundly marked fashion and style between the 1990s and the early 2000s, Alexander McQueen (1969-2010) has gone down in history as the Hooligan of High Fashion and the Rebel King of British fashion. Alexander McQueen used fashion as a cultural metaphor. With bustiers, dark symbols, tartan motifs and Gothic patterns, Alexander McQueen paired creativity with skillful tailoring and pattern construction, tracing the way for the experimental designers who came after him. Next to sensually coutured dresses, the Alexander McQueen’s punk and rebellious touch still marks accessories, from shoes to bags, sneakers and scarves with the iconic skull, the maison’s logo.

McQueen is the documentary of a larger project that pays tribute to the genius of the namesake designer. The film is part of another two projects dedicated to the designer which are in the production phase: The Ripper, focused on the intense and tumultuous friendship with his beloved muse Isabella Blow; and a biopic directed by Andrew Haigh and starring Jack O’Connell.
