The love story between cinema and fashion has always narrated the evolution of art, society and languages through precious collaborations and exceptional actresses.
Fashion’s contribution has always been fruitful for the cinema industry and its visions. Nonconformist actor Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s has consolidated in collective imagery thanks to her relationship with French couturier Hubert de Givenchy.
But fashion has not only dressed Hollywood actors and icons: it has laced film plots and is interwoven in stories and screenplays, with names including Armani, Brioni, Fendi, Ferragamo, Gucci, Valentino, Versace and many more. For some this is an exclusively amorous relationship, celebrated by exhibitions and shows (Fendi Studios, Salvatore Ferragamo Museum, and so on) in which fashion brands talk about their passion for cinema. The perfect fusion of these two languages confirms the fact that today fashion is appropriating cinema and the rules of the seventh art, which it uses for communication campaigns dedicated to the latest collections.
The recent collaboration between Armani and Luca Guadagnino for the Laboratorium project is only the latest in order of the possible forms that the partnership between cinema and fashion can take.
Giorgio Armani pays tribute to the seventh art, a lifelong passion and a continuous source of inspiration for his collections, and he does so thanks to Luca Guadagnino, one of the most original and elegant directors on the Italian and international cinema scene. The Armani / Laboratorio project that took place last November at Armani / Silos in Milan stems from the idea of a film workshop where stories are created, working together with the guidance and support of the industry’s leaders. It is the result of a collective work in which the final result depends on everyone’s contribution.
