MONTERIGGIONI DI TORRI SI CORONA
From 6 to 9 July
It is one of the oldest medieval festivals in Tuscany which every year attracts enthusiasts from all parts of Italy, perhaps also thanks to its spectacular scenery: the fortified village of Monteriggioni, one hour from The Mall Firenze.
Before you visit the castle, you need to exchange your money: the euro is not accepted within the perfectly preserved walls of this castle, you can only pay with the “grosso”, the ancient currency of Siena.
Step back in time between shows in the square, dances, parades, knights and ladies, musicians, acrobats and jesters, ancient trades, merchants, taverns, and even army camps and chivalrous competitions. On 9 July at 11:25 pm, there will be the final parade with fireworks.
MERCANTIA – CERTALDO ALTO
From 12 to 16 July
The largest Italian festival of street theatre takes place in another spectacular setting: Certaldo Alto, an hour from The Mall Firenze. Famous for being Boccaccio’s birthplace, the village becomes the capital of street theatre for five days and can be reached on foot or by funicular. This is Mercantia: wonder, magic and imagination. A triumph of performances with artists everywhere: dance, music, juggling, balancing acts, circus performances, gypsy music, installations and crafts. A unique experience for both adults and children. On 16 July the festival will conclude at 11.45pm with a fireworks display.
